Everyday when I leave the office I am confronted by Mansura Khanam’s triptych “City Pigeons” installed in the student gallery at the School of the International Center of Photography. I had every intention today to just post those photographs however after spending time looking through her other work, that decision wasn’t as simple. All her work is so intimate, so unique. Candidly capturing moments of heartache and modernity. The series above, “On the Outside” follows a 14 year old boy whose been raised by his grandmother while his mother finishes out her jail sentence. The photographs from her Hurricane Sandy coverage brings me right back to those dark and weathered streets like October, revealing a city’s resilience amidst a world that’s environment is dramatically shifting. I highly recommend looking at her website. Can’t wait to see what she works on next.
