agents of death

Art, exhibitions, Photography

My last trip to MoMa’s Photography galleries reminded of these black and white photographers, which made me happy. I also finally got to see Robert Frank’s Trolley, New Orleans [1955]  in person. It was the highlight of my year.

Helen Levitt, New York 1942  viewmore.

Lazlo Moholy-Nagy, Dolls, Ascona 1926 artistwebsite.

Ryoji Akiyama, Men Using a Toilet Along National Highway 2 1970 on view @ MoMa.

The photograph is literally an emanation of the referent. From a real body, which was there, proceed radiations which ultimately touch me, who am here; the duration of the transmission is insignificant; the photograph of the missing being, as Sontag says, will touch me like the delayed rays of a star. – Roland Barthes from Camera Lucida: Reflections on Photography
